The AcA's Arts In Education Program is excited to announce the 2009/2010 Round I Arts Grants For Teachers recipients.
Through funding provided by the Lafayette Parish School System the AcA was able to administer $7,878 in grant funds that will affect more than 553 students in the Lafayette Parish public schools.
The purpose of this grant program is to encourage teachers to design and develop artistically creative and innovative projects involving the visual and performing arts.
Applications for Round II of the Arts Grants For Teachers granting program are available by visiting AcadianaCenterfortheArts.org/Education. The deadline for application submission is May 7, 2010.

Plein Air Painting
N.P. Moss Annex - Troy Dugas
22 2nd-11th grade students
Students in the Talent Visual Art Program will create "plein air" paintings while learning about landscape painting in history and in our local culture.
Paul Breaux Middle School - Anita Roberts-Long
63 8th grade students
Students will study pop art and apply art strategies to their understanding of literary elements seen in the contemporary world as they produce their own pop art.
Painting As Language: Expanding the Boundaries
N.P. Moss Annex - Kathleen Reed
24 9th - 12th grade students
This project gives gifted/talented visual art students in the visual art program at N.P. Moss Annex experiences using contemporary developments in paint and painting techniques. As a component of the project, invited artist, Professor Scott Sinclair will present his work and lead a hands-on session with students.
J.W. James Elementary - Jennifer Cohen/JoLynn Dean
48 4th grade students
The students will work with the classroom teacher and a local artist to learn about and create personal and classroom mandalas which will reflect their personalities and learning styles.
W.D. Smith Career Center - Susan Oglesbee
23 8th - 12th grade students
Yvonne LaFleur, custom hat and clothing designer, will give the WD Smith Career Center Fashion Design
Class a demonstration in hat making in New Orleans, LA.
Art Therapy and The Counselor
N.P. Moss Annex/Genesis - Susan Bergeron
20 8th -12th grade students
This project will integrate art therapy through the counseling department.
Weaving Through Our Acadiana Culture
Ossun Elementary - Adrienne Guidry
25 5th grade students
The students will complete a weaving project and learn about the Acadiana Culture.
A Closer Look - Georgia O'Keefe
Prairie Elementary - Carey Lemoine/Viane Dawkins/ Melanie Gamberutti
148 4th grade students
Students will draw and paint their own version of a flower up-close similar to the style of Georgia O'Keefe.
Paul Breaux Middle School - Brenda Petro/Karen Gutsmiedl/Eric LeBlanc
60 6th - 8th grade students
Arts Alive! Is a collaborative production among teachers and students at Paul Breaux Middle School to showcase the school's activities in programs supporting the performing arts. The production is schedule for May 7th at the AcA is conjunction with the Arts Expo sponsored by Lafayette Parish School System.
Charlie and Chocolate Factory
J.W. James Elementary - Cissy Whipp/Erin Gray/Hannah Briggs
120 5th grade students
A collaborative arts project integrating "Charlie & the Chocolate Factory into the curriculum and culminating in a community performance featuring 5th grade band, dance, drama, piano, strings, visual art, and vocal music students.
