A. A. Comeaux Park has been broken into or vandalized three times in as many weeks. Two of those instances occurred in broad daylight.
"They came through an adjoining window, pulled a facing ou,t pulled the screen back, and threw a brick through the window," Parks and Recreation Director Jerry Martinez said.
During that break in a 52-inch flat screen TV was stolen and also a laptop computer. All of this happened while the park was hosting a tournament. The main office is partially behinda fence so people in the park couldn't see someone breaking in.
Nothing was taken during the second break in because the building alarm was set. Police did not make it in time to apprehend the intruders then.
This past weekend vandals destroyed a headstone commemorating the man the park is named after.
"It's unfortunate these things happen, but we're taking steps to keep it from happening again. We've inserted some cameras and some additional liability issues to keep them from coming back in," Martinez said.
Police have also picked up patrols in the park.
