NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Former Jefferson Parish Aaron Broussard has asked a federal judge to delay his Oct. 1 trial on public corruption charges. In a motion filed Wednesday, The Times-Picayune reports Broussard seeks the delay citing a new indictment and new health problems.
Co-defendant Tom Wilkinson, the former parish attorney during the Broussard administration, joined in the request.
The motion comes two weeks after a grand jury handed up a superseding indictment adding new charges to the case against Broussard and Wilkinson.
The motion said Broussard's medical condition involving cancer and his prognosis have a high degree of uncertainty.
Broussard and Wilkinson have both pleaded innocent.
