Nearly two weeks after authorities find a burned body in an abandoned vehicle, they are now searching for a suspected killer. The Guidry family says they want justice. Police say, 20 year old Ernest Guidry was shot and killed in Abbeville and then burned in his truck which was driven to another location. The task at hand now is catching him.
Guidry's cousin Melanie Bell said, "I still picture him the same way I see him in my mind everyday, he was always smiling."
The Guidry family says the pain of losing Ernest is too much to handle.
Vermilion parish officials say they have leads on an accused killer. 30 year old Ferdinand Nickles who is now wanted state wide. His mother Mary Harris Williams said, "Nothing is going to bring my son back but knowing that the person that murdered him was brought to justice is some what of a relief. I would rather have my son."
His mother says the last time they spoke was only hours before he was killed. Later that night his fiancé says they were sleeping when Guidry got a call, she says that was the last time she saw him. He said he would be right back. "I got out my bed and me and my momma we was looking for him and we never found him and we still never found him," said Fiance Zanika Bryant.
All family members question why this happened. They say to the best of their knowledge he had no enemies. "He say a lot of people didn't like him, he just didn't know why they didn't like him, but I guess it's because of what he did," said Bryant.
Bryant said he was a drug dealer. "We have reason to believe that drugs played a big part in this brutal crime," said Sheriff Mike Couvillion.
Sheriff Couvillion says Nickels does have an extensive arrest record which consists mainly of aggravated assault and armed robbery. As of right now he is on the run. Authorities don't know what type of car he is driving because they say he keeps switching vehicles. Police say Nickels is armed and dangerous.
