A mother, a toddler and another child died in an Opelousas house fire Saturday night. It happened at 710 S. Academy St around 5:45.
Officials say 24 year old Brittney Sion and her two year old daughter, Analya were found in bed. The three year old Timirron was found in the hallway. Those who hung out with Sion Saturday morning say she went home in the afternoon to take a nap. Hours later, neighbors were calling 911. "We believe that the 3 year old was up because he was found in the hallway as if to be running away from the fire," said Opelousas Fire Chief Lee Cahanin.
According to the state fire marshal the cause of the fire may be electrical. All three died due to smoke inhalation. Both of the children were deaf so family members say they wouldn't have been able to hear their mother screaming for help.
Her close friends and family placed a vigil outside her house in her honor. Four year old Timirror Stelly is now the only living child of Sion. She survived because she was at her grandmothers at the time of the fire. The state fire marshal says the smoke detectors in the house were not working. Funeral arraignments are being made at Williams Funeral Home in Opelousas.
