A Marine from Scott drowned over the weekend, while at the beach with friends off Emerald Isle Coast in North Carolina.
Lance Corporal Esrom Joseph was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 9th Marines at Camp Lejeune. Family members tell KATC, Joseph wanted to spend the day relaxing with friends at the beach. While swimming, a rip tide caught him. Officials say two friends noticed he was struggling and tried to hold onto him, but lost their grip. Joseph was the youngest leader of his Platoon.
Joseph's mother, Brenda Joseph says, "I will always miss him. I don't know how long or how old l'll live to be, but I'll always tell the story of how i lost my 19 year old son."
KATC's Jenise Fernandez will have more from Joseph's family tomorrow night on Acadiana's Newschannel at 5.
