It all started when 32 year old Laquantin Greene returned to the home of his estranged wife.
The family says when Greene entered the residence, they could tell he was on some type of drug and he was threatening to kill himself.
His wife called 911 to alert authorities and a St. Martin Parish Deputy was sent to the scene. State police say when the deputy arrived on scene he found Greene with a handgun.
Greene's wife stayed inside the house and didn't see the shooting, but she heard two shots. She came outside to find Greene on the ground with a gun at his side; and a bullet wound to his abdomen.
The other bullet fired by the deputy struck a vehicle down the street.
When it was over, the family says police told them only that they had shot Greene; but not whether Greene had pointed the gun or was shot just because he had a gun in his hand. Greene remains in the hospital tonight under police guard. The family is not allowed to see him.
Louisiana State Police are still investigating the shooting.
