Cleco has restored power to 83 percent of its customers who lost electricity after a destructive ice storm blanketed much of central Louisiana.
The company says customers in some outlying areas will be without power until sometime Friday. Anthony Bunting, vice president of transmission and distribution operations, says crews are using off-road equipment to reach downed wire in heavily wooded areas.
As of 5 p.m. Thursday, Cleco said about 5,231 customers were still offline. The majority of homes without power were in Avoyelles and Rapides parishes.
