NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Federal authorities say seven people have now
been indicted for allegedly filing fraudulent damage claims for
money following the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
The charges involve two in Texas and North Carolina, four
charged in Alabama, Michigan and Mississippi, and one in Louisiana.
The charges include mail and wire fraud, and, in at least one
case, identity fraud.
On Friday, a New Orleans-based indictment was filed against Cam.
T. Hang, alleging she falsely stated that her seafood restaurant
had incurred a $42,000 loss of income because of the spill.
Hang could not be located for comment and it's not known if she
has an attorney.
