NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The U.S. Department of Justice says a 50-year-old New Orleans man has been sentenced to six months in prison for shooting two Hispanic men in what prosecutors said was a racially motivated attack.

A news release says Mark Gautreau was sentenced Thursday. He pleaded guilty in November to one count of assault with a dangerous weapon on federal land.

Gautreau admitted telling a bystander at the Bonnet Carre Spillway that he planned to "shoot some Mexicans," then driving to an area where four Hispanic men were fishing and firing his shotgun once. Prosecutors say the pellets hit two of the men, and both had to be hospitalized.

Gautreau's plea admitted that none of the men threatened him.
