LIVINGSTON, La. (AP) - Five people trying to break into the Livingston Parish jail finally made it in - with some help from sheriff's deputies.
The sheriff's office says the group was arrested for trying to sneak drugs, cell phones and other contraband into the Livingston Parish Detention Center.
Deputies collected the contraband before it got to inmates. Authorities say the alleged break-in happened between Jan. 1-3 and the group was arrested Jan. 10 and 11.
Lucretia Simmons and Haley Howze, both of French Settlement; Paul Clement Jr. of Livingston; John Mitchell Ballard, of Denham Springs, and Michael May Jr., of Livingston, all were being held Thursday on $1 million bond.
How they got into the jail has not been disclosed.
WAFB-TV reports the investigation was continuing, with more arrests possible.
