400 Pounds of Marijuana Found During Traffic Stop

 

The Lafayette Metro Narcotics Task Force I.C.E. unit conducted a traffic stop on a moving van for a traffic violation on I-10 near mile marker 101. After a K-9 alert on the vehicle a search of the vehicle was conducted. Metro Agents located 16 large bundles of marijuana which weighed a total of 400 lbs. in the rear cargo compartment of the vehicle. It was also discovered that the vehicle was stolen out of Pasadena, Texas.

The marijuana which was being transported by the suspect was discovered to be coated with an unknown substance. Because of this the Lafayette Fire Department and Louisiana State Police Haz-Mat units were contacted. After consulting with the Haz-Mat units it was decided to contact the 62nd Civil Support Team who responded and conducted several hours of test on the unknown substance. It was revealed that the substance covering the marijuana consisted of kerosene, mineral oil and antifreeze.  

The driver of the vehicle who was identified as Jose Badillo address 2600 Wichita St. Pasadena, Texas was arrested and booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on the charge of Possession with the intent to distribute marijuana and Unauthorized Use of a Moveable.

The marijuana recovered has a street value of approximately $950,000.00
