NEW ORLEANS (AP) - About 40 teachers at the University of New
Orleans have received letters telling them that the next academic
year may be their last with the school.
Similar letters earlier went out to non-tenured faculty members
at Louisiana State University, Northwestern State University and
Nicholls State University.
LSU spokesman Charles Zewe told The Times-Picayune that the LSU
system could face as much as $300 million in cuts for the 2011-2012
academic year.
UNO says teaching contracts require a year's notice of a
possible firing.
