Ernest Gallet Elementary 4-H Club held a donation drive at their school this week for Goodwill Industries of Acadiana. At 1:30pm Thursday afternoon, the students are walked across the street to the Goodwill Donation Center at 3010 E. Milton Avenue to see how much has been collected and present it to Goodwill. The donation Drive falls during 4-H Week where the kids are celebrating all that 4-H stands for, including protecting the environment. These donations represent pounds of materials that would otherwise be dumped in a landfill. These donations give a second life to quality items, providing their neighbors with low cost buys and helping the environment.
Besides saving these donations from a life in a landfill, the students are helping others in the community because each donation represents a dollar amount that can be put toward job placement, career guidance, GED preparation, and housing assistance for a neighbor. That's how Goodwill uses people's unwanted possessions.
The students brought in over 400 pounds of donations.
