The 3rd Annual Bayou BBQ Bash, "Morgan City Under the Bridge" will take place from July 18 - 19, 2014, in downtown Morgan City on the corner of Second and Greenwood Streets.
This will be an IBCA Sanctioned State Championship BBQ Competition with the following food categories: pork spare ribs, brisket, and/or chicken. Competitors must cook all three food categories to be qualified for the Grand Champion prize. There will also be a Corporate Cooking Team Throw Down Challenge for bragging rights for the Best Corporate Company Cooking Team in St. Mary Parish, and a BBQ Sauce Competition. Teams are not allowed to cook with gas cookers. Competitors can begin cooking after their meats have been inspected. Cooks will start turning in their meats at 12 noon on Saturday, July 19th, and an awards ceremony will take place at 4:30 pm.
Also, on July 19th there will be BBQ competitions for kids, Kids Qs, for the following age groups: 13 - 15 years old will cook chicken legs and 12 years & under will cook pork chops. Food categories will be provided for the kids competing, and they will turn in one of their meats to be judged. Entry fee is $10.00 and each age group is limited to the first 15 entries. There will be a Business After Hours, "Meet the Cooks," on July 17, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Hampton Inn & Suites in Morgan City to kick of this event. Food and refreshments will be served.
On Friday, July 18th, there will be a live musical performance by Déjà vu from 6:00 to 10:00 pm, Arts & Crafts Booths (4:00 to 10:00 pm), and food &beer booths (5:30 to 10:00 pm). Along with a mandatory Cooks Meeting beginning at 5:30 pm.
On Saturday, July 19th, there will be other events taking place throughout the day for everyone to enjoy, including, the "Run for the Ribs" 5K Run/Walk at 8:00 am, Arts & Crafts Booths from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, a Kids Zone from 12 Noon to 5:00 pm, Quilters Guild Booth from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and Live Music beginning at 9:00 am. Seabrook will perform from 9:00 to 11:00 am and Don Rich will close out the event performing from 12 Noon to 4:00 pm. There will be food, soft drinks and beer booths selling a variety of food items and drinks from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.
This contest will be an International Barbecue Cookers Association's competition. IBCA's purpose is to develop and encourage fair competitive barbeque cooking internationally, while giving competitive cookers the peace of mind when their product is placed in the judging area.
