One of the first festivals of the fall season is more than just a good time for the town hosting it.
The Duck Festival is one of the biggest economic boosts of the year, not only in Gueydan, but for all of Vermilion Parish.
Now in it's 38th year, the annual Duck Festival, which starts today, ushers in Gueydan's busiest time of year.
In a town of only 1500 people, being known as the duck capital of America has its perks.
From guns and ammunition to clothes and groceries the hunting season that kicks off during the festival is also the start of the busiest time of the year in Gueydan. The town's sales tax revenue during festival month is higher than any other three months combined.
