BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Agents with the Office of Alcohol and Tobacco Control have issued 331 violations in the first month of the agency's 2014 Summer Crackdown on underage alcohol and tobacco sales.
Of those violations, 211 were for alcohol sales to minors; 120 were for tobacco sales to minors.
Since the campaign began June 2, ATC agents have conducted more than 2,400 compliance checks on businesses statewide that sell and/or serve alcohol and tobacco.
Last year, agents conducted a total of 3,000 compliance checks over a three-month period and they are working to more than double that number this year.
Businesses caught selling alcohol or tobacco to underage persons are subject to criminal charges and face fines and penalties that could result in suspension or revocation of their alcohol and tobacco permits.
