Three people have been killed after a single-engine plane crashed this afternoon in Acadia Parish. Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Lynn Lunsford says witnesses reported seeing the Cessna 182 take off about 2:30 p.m. Saturday from LeGros Memorial Airport in Estherwood, lose power and then crash. Lunsford says the plane was about 200 feet in the air when the pilot attempted unsuccessfully to make it back to the runway.
Lunsford says two other people aboard the plane were injured. He did not know their conditions or the identities of any of the victims. The crash is being investigated by the FAA and the Acadia Parish Sheriff.
