$21,000 reward offered for arrest of elephant shooter

TUPELO, MS (Mississippi News Now) - Rewards totaling more than $21,000 are being offered for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons who shot an elephant belonging to the Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus in Tupelo early Tuesday morning.

Around 2 a.m. Carol, a 39 year-old Asian elephant was shot on the grounds of the BanCorpSouth Center. A Silver or white Ford Explorer was seen in the immediate area at the time of the shooting.

Crime Stoppers of Northeast, MS will pay up the $1,000 and an additional $20,500 is also being offered.

A veterinarian, who works for the circus and is an elephant specialist, is flying to Tupelo.

Carol is alert and moving around, and is expected to make a full recovery.
