The 2014 Louisiana Hurricane Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday is this Saturday, May 24 and Sunday, May 25. This tax holiday gives Louisiana residents an opportunity to prepare for storm season.
Essential items such as flashlights, batteries, portable generators and other emergency supplies are free from the four percent state sales tax.
The tax exemption only applies for the four percent state tax, local will still apply unless specifically exempted by local taxing authorities.
The sales tax holiday exempts each eligible item from the 4 percent state sales tax. It applies to the first $1,500 of the purchase price of each item.
