The American Lung Association is hosting the second annual, Fight for Air Walk in Lafayette on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at 9:30 a.m.
"We are very excited to be back for our second year with the Fight For Air Walk in Lafayette," said June Arton, Chairman of this year's event and member of the Leadership Council for the American Lung Association. "This year's Walk promises to be even bigger and better than our inaugural Walk last year."
Through team sponsorships and donations, Fight for Air Walk participants will support the American Lung Association's Fight for Air.
· Lung disease is the 3rd leading cause of death in the United States. 1 in 7 Americans will die from lung disease.
· Lung cancer is the single deadliest cancer-killing more women than breast and ovarian cancer combined.
· Each year, 392,000 people die from tobacco-caused disease, making it the leading cause of preventable death in the United States.
· Asthma is the #1 chronic reason that children miss school-resulting in 14 million missed school days each year.
"Almost everyone knows someone who has been affected by some form of lung disease," said Arton. "I have been an asthmatic my entire life and know that when you can't breathe, nothing else matters. Never in my wildest imagination could I imagine when I started volunteering for the American Lung Association because of my asthma, that my mother would be diagnosed and lose her life to lung cancer."
