2012 in Review: "Most Viewed" Stories of the Year

2012 is coming to a close, and often times the new year is not only a time to look forward, but to reflect back on the year that's passed. And Acadiana has had quite the year.

When looking at the top ten stories of the year, we can go to the internet to find the "most viewed" stories on for 2012. Often times these are the stories that had the biggest impact on Acadiana, or at least peaked a lot of people's interest. Here are the top ten "most viewed" stories of the year:

10. Wrong Way Crash Caught on Tape: 15,661 views
The dramatic moments caught on camera by a driver on I-10 right before a wrong way crash. Danny Leblanc was driving to Houston from New Orleans when he saw an out of control truck swerving through lanes and over to the opposite side of the interstate, ultimately causing a major crash on I-10.

9. Isaac Evacuations and Closures: 16,003 views
Isaac and the numerous warnings, evacuations and school closures in the days before, the web story received thousands of hits as Acadiana prepared for Isaac.

8. Scandals Nightclub Owner Dies in Crash: 17,040 views
A fatal crash in Lafayette on Verot School Rd. claimed the life of scandals nightclub owner Richard Broussard. The accident happened on April 27, 2012, the driver of the vehicle, Donna "Andre" Theall also died in the crash.

7. Ousted Big Brother Cast Member Arrested in Lafayette: 17,539 views
William "Willie" Hantz was arrested in downtown Lafayette and charged with OWI.

6. Sue 'Em! Troy Landry Files Lawsuit: 20,087 views
Alligator Hunter and Swamp People star Troy Landry sued three companies for profiting from some of his signature phrases, like "choot em!"

5. LSU Fan Sexually Assaulted by Alabama Fan: 21,238 views
The sexual assault of an LSU fan in New Orleans by an Alabama fan after the BCS Championship. In the video, the Alabama fan can be seen exposing his genitals and rubbing them on an unconscious LSU fan. The 'Bama fan, Brian Downing, was later arrested for sexual battery.

4. Opelousas Catholic Students in Grave Condition: 21,588 views
The two Opelousas Catholic School students, Sarah Jarrell and Morgan Adam, were involved in a deadly car accident. As they were rushed to the hospital, friends gathered on the school lawn to pray for their classmates. Jarrell and Adams eventually died of their injuries, they were both organ donors.

3. Coroner Identifies Body as Missing St. Martinville Teen: 26,375 views
18-year-old Dylon Boudreaux had been missing for several days, when the coroner identified a body found in St. Martinville as that of the teen.

2. Violent Attack in Scott, Victim's Face Bitten: 54,935 views
It's a story that made national headlines and garnered almost 55,000 views on the web. Suspect Carl Jacqunueax attacked a man in Scott, and bit off a chunk of his face.

1. Isaac: School Closures: 56,643 views
The most viewed story of the year on was Isaac and the school closures. No doubt, all of Acadiana was watching the storm and paying attention to school closures. The hurricane turned tropical storm blew through Acadiana, producing winds up to 55 miles an hour, but didn't drop much rain. The brunt of Isaac hit our neighbors to the south east.

But when going through the list, one story was missing. It didn't make the top 10, or even the top 20 most viewed stories on the web. But without a doubt, the disappearance of Mickey Shunick was the biggest story of the year.

The 21-year-old captured the hearts of Acadiana and inspired them with her courage, bravery and love of life. It was a life she fought for to the very end. Through it all, Mickey changed Acadiana forever.
