Lafayette Parish President Joey Durel honors Lacey Broussard as the 2010 Outstanding Individual with a Disability for Lafayette Parish.
In a luncheon held today at the Robicheaux Center, Parish President Joey Durel awarded Lacey Broussard with the distinguished honor as the 2010 Outstanding Individual with a Disability for Lafayette Parish..
Lacey was nominated by LARC's Vocational Services Manager Mary Gallien. She said in her nomination letter, "Lacey always gives 100 percent….Monday-Friday, and even on Saturdays." She added, "We feel privileged." Lacey has been with the LARC family for 33 years. He has been employed on the janitorial crew for 17 years. This mobile work crew cleans the Brandywine State Building on Kaliste Saloom. This building continues to be recognized as one of the cleanest state buildings. In December of 2009, Broussard was named the EDS Worker of the Year for the State of Louisiana. This award is given to individuals with disabilities who are employed by state contracts.
The third annual event also awarded Educator of the Year, Family of the Year and other honors - all having to do with persons with disabilities. Durel said the committee who oversees the awards was created to give people with disabilities a voice in government. The ceremony is held each October since this month is also the National Employment Disability Awareness Month.
