SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - Shreveport officials say repair crews are
at work at a broken sewage main that is letting 2,000 gallons of
sewage per minute into Champion Lake.
The Times reports that a city crew found the leak Tuesday
morning - apparently, three days after it started.
A city news release says the main broke after a storm Saturday
cut off power to the Stoner Lift Station. It says that when the
power resumed, it apparently caused a hydraulic surge in the line,
breaking it near the lake.
The city says it is monitoring water quality and has notified
the state Department of Environmental Quality.
