2 Robberies Occurred 30 Minutes Apart in Lafayette

The Lafayette Police Department is investigating two robberies that occurred 30 minutes apart near McKinley Street during the early morning hours of August 19, 2010. At approximately 2:06 am, a female victim (18) was walking in the 200 block of Brainard Avenue when she was approached by a black male. The suspect pointed a handgun at the victim and demanded her purse. The suspect grabbed the victim's purse and fled the area in a silver Chevrolet Malibu.

At approximately 2:37 am, a female victim (21) was walking in the 1500 block of Jefferson Street to her nearby apartment when a black male approached her. The suspect pointed a handgun at the victim and demanded her possessions. The victim turned over a cell phone and the suspect fled the area.

The suspect in both instances is described as a black male in his 20's or 30's, 5'8", thin build and wearing a black muscle shirt with baggy jeans. The suspect is believed to have fled the area in a silver Chevrolet Malibu.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about the incident or the identity of the suspect to call the Lafayette Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.
