Two referees were arrested during the third quarter of a high school football game in south Louisiana. They were charged with intimidation after an argument broke out, halting play for more than 20 minutes.
The arrests came during the St. Paul's-Mandeville game Friday night. WWL-TV reports that referees argued with a chain crew on the sidelines and then with a Covington Police officer over crowd control.
Covington Police Capt. Jack West tells the Times-Picayune the referees were released from the St. Tammany Parish jail on $250 bond each.
Police spent most of the break in the game talking to both teams' coaches.
West says 10 people on the sidelines witnessed the event that prompted the arrests. He says more information will be released Monday.
