2 pets killed in house fire

According to Captain Alton Trahan of the Lafayette Fire Department, at 11:13 a.m. today, firefighters from Lafayette, Carencro, and Scott Fire Departments responded to 104 La Rue Christ Roi for a reported house fire. When emergency crews arrived, heavy smoke and flames were coming from the roof of the single-family dwelling. The fire quickly spread to the entire roof and interior of the dwelling. The home sustained heavy fire damage.

There were no injuries reported. The owner did lose two pets in the fire: a dog and cat.

According to Trahan, the home owner awoke to smoke in his living room. The owner stated there was a blanket on side the couch on fire. He attempted to extinguish the fire, but was unsuccessful.

Fire investigators determined that the fire originated in the living room and the cause is still under investigation.
