2 Million Katrina Volunteers

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - From celebrities to everyday people, more
than 2 million volunteers are estimated to have poured into
Louisiana and Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina struck on Aug.
29, 2005.
They rebuilt houses, fed families, provided medical care, hauled
debris and created playgrounds.
And they helped give the devastated region a fighting chance to
rebound.
New Orleans Habitat for Humanity esDS ates more than 120,000
volunteers worked just in its reconstruction efforts.
Katrina's storm surge broke levees in New Orleans and swept
inland on the Mississippi coast.
