LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - Two Mexican citizens have pleaded guilty in federal court to bulk cash smuggling for attempting to transport money concealed in a car door across the Mexican border.
Court documents say Martin Luna and Urbano Santiago tried to smuggle more than $100,000 in cash into Mexico.
According to federal law, it is illegal to transport more than $10,000 into or out of the United States without reporting it to the secretary of the Treasury.
During a traffic stop on April 8, the American Press reports Sulphur police discovered $123,500 in cash wrapped in cellophane and concealed inside the back passenger-side door of a rental vehicle driven by Santiago.
U.S. District Court Judge Patricia Minaldi set sentencing for Nov. 10.
