2 Local Swimmers Continue Career At NCAA Level

Becoming a college athlete is an honor many students hope to achieve, but only a few get to experience. Two local swimmers with the City of Lafayette Aquatics club are getting a chance to achieve their goals of collegiate swimming. Randi Latiolais and Bryce Davidson from New Iberia each signed Letters of Intent to continue their careers. Latiolais is going to Henderson state in Arkansas.

"My coaches always talked about it and I know two swimmers through COLA who are there. I took a recruiting trip there and loved it from the very moment I was there," Randy Latiolais said.

Davidson is taking his talents to Florida to swim at Nova Southeastern. He's glad the decision process is over, after he reached out to at least 50 schools before making his decision.

"Just emailing all these coaches just hoping you get an email back. It's very stressful," Davidson said.

Under the watchful eye of Coach Robert Looney, for him it's a culmination of hard work by his athletes with many hours logged in the pool.

"Seeing these guys do that, It makes me feel great. It's why I do it because I know how excited they are and I know how much they deserve it," Looney said

Both of these athletes give credit and thanks to their coaches and parents, for believing and pushing them to success they look to continue at the next level.

"I really want to get a national time so that way I can get a full ride, but all in all I just want to have fun that's the biggest thing I want to do," Latiolais said.

"The education over there (NOVA) is outstanding for exercise and sports sciences, what I'm going to go for, and the swimming just adds on to it," Davidson said.
