The Department of Health and Hospital's 39 Week Initiative allows doctors throughout the state to stop inducing labor if the mother isn't at least 39 weeks pregnant.
Lafayette General and Women's and Children's are among the newest names in Acadiana on the list.
Dr. Tina Stefanski with the Department of Health and Hospitals say several hospitals are taking part in the program.
"20 hospitals across the state have agreed to take part in the program which makes up about 2/3 babies delivered in Louisiana," said Stefanski.
Doctors believe 39 Week Initiative will tackle the infant mortality issues because babies will have a chance to stay in the womb longer which means the chances are high that they'll be healthier.
"For example their brain, there's so much growth and development in their brain in the last couple of weeks of gestation," said Stefanski.
