HOUMA, La. (AP) - Seven inmates are accused of starting a riot, which left two injured, at the Terrebonne Parish jail.
The fight, which happened Friday night, allegedly started during a dispute during a card game in the inmates' common area.
According to the Courier, the two injured inmates, 21-year-old Javon Davis and 52-year-old Kevin Jones, were taken to Leonard J. Chabert (shuh-BEHR') Medical Center. Terrebonne sheriff's Capt. Dawn Foret (fohr-AY') says one inmate had several teeth knocked out, while the other's jaw was bruised.
Deputies say a broom, which was left in the area along with other cleaning supplies, was used in the beating.
Davis and Jones have been released from the hospital. They are each booked with felony rioting and face a five-year prison sentence if convicted.
