2 dead in Pointe Coupee wreck

ERWINVILLE, La. (AP) - State police say two people died and one person suffered life-threatening injuries after a single-vehicle crash U.S. 190 Highway in Pointe Coupee Parish.

Trooper Russell Graham tells The Advocate 54-year-old George Joseph Jr. of New Orleans was eastbound on U.S. 190 around 1 a.m. Saturday near the community of Torbert west of Erwinville when his SUV struck the median guardrail.

Graham says the vehicle began to spin, hit a second guardrail and burst into flames.

Joseph was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. The front seat passenger, 78-year-old George Joseph Sr. of New Orleans, was taken to a hospital but later died from his injuries.

The rear seat passenger, 80-year-old Jeannette Joseph of Donaldsonville, was pronounced dead at the scene.
