NEW ORLEANS - A St. Charles Parish sheriff's deputy and a
tax preparer have been indicted on charges they used the identities
of prison inmates to fraudulently obtain more than $800,000 in tax
refunds.
The sheriff's deputy, 42-year-old Warren LeBeauf, and the tax
preparer, 36-year-old Tamara Scott-Landry, were charged Thursday in
an 88-count indictment handed up by a federal grand jury in New
Orleans.
The indictment accuses LeBeauf of running inmates' names through
a law-enforcement database and providing their personal data to
Scott-Landry so she could file fraudulent tax returns under their
names.
