Two Sulphur residents are behind bars after being accused of possessing meth in the presence of juvenile.
On October 20, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to 4200 Maplewood Drive, Apt. # 309, after receiving a complaint regarding the welfare of a child due to alleged drug activity occurring inside the apartment, according to deputies.
Upon arrival, deputies spoke with tenants Zachary R. Droddy, 25, and Michele R. Elliott, 19, and also discovered a 1-year-old child inside the apartment. According to deputies, Droddy and Elliott began to act suspiciously, deputies received permission to search the apartment and located three plastic containers containing crystal methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia inside.
Droddy and Elliott were arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and both charged with possession of CDS II (crystal meth); possession of drug paraphernalia; child endangerment; and CDS in the presence of a minor. Elliott, who is also charged with obstruction of justice, was released on a $3,000 bond set by Judge Clayton Davis. Judge Clayton Davis set Droddy's bond at $2,500.
According to police, the child was removed from the home by the Department of Children & Family Services and placed with family members. CPSO Sr. Cpl. Grant Strenth and Deputy Christopher Rabb were the arresting deputies in this case.
