The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office, in conjunction with Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, recently hosted a hunter education class at the Patterson Civic Center.
Nineteen children and adults participated in the 10 hour long class culminating with a visit to the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Shooting Range in Franklin. Instructors for this course were Buddy Rogers, Bart Lange, and Ross Mire. Anyone can participate in the basic student course, but only those persons 10 years of age or older are eligible for certification.
Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a Louisiana Hunter Education Certification Card that is recognized by all states and provinces that require hunter education. Louisiana requires anyone born on or after September 1, 1969 to be certified. For the next class availability, you can go online to www.wlf.louisiana.gov. The information will also be posted on the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office Facebook page once a date is set.
