A Ville Platte man faces 14-counts of animal cruelty and more charges could follow. Deputies say an anonymous tip led them to a home on 5th St. in Ville Platte where they removed 20 dogs. Investigators say all of them were found in poor condition and in need of immediate medical attention.
Most of the dogs, 14 of them had to be euthanized due to the severity of their condition.
The resident of the home, Calvin Freeman is charge with 14-counts of animal cruelty but friends and family say this is all a big misunderstanding and most of the dogs were strays never picked up by local shelters.
"I think this is all wrong." Joyce Bordelon says, "these are not all his dogs; some just wandered here... People just drop them off in the neighborhood so they try to do their best and keep feeding all these animals."
Investigators say more charges could follow after they found other animals. This time, horses in similar conditions.
