A 13-year-old boy is under arrest after deputies say he stabbed his step-mother to death. The teen is charged with second degree murder.
"She was a dear friend, she was the best of the best. I'll never forget her," said Joy Lasseigne, a friend of the victim. She's devastated that her dear friend was stabbed to death.
"She was a loving, loving person. People Loved her," Lasseigne said.
Police say the stabbing happened at the victim's home, who they are not yet identifying because not all of her family has been notified of her death. The victim is originally from the Philippines, and her husband was working out of town according to family friends. The 13-year-old boy accused of stabbing her is currently in police custody
"The calls came in at about 6:30 pm. Deputies arrived on the scene, they located a female that had sustained multiple stab wounds. She had no signs consistent with life and was pronounced dead by the Iberia Parish coroner's office," Iberia Parish Police Captain Ryan Turner said.
"One of her sister contacted me on facebook last night and we talked on and off until 1 o'clock, and she told me her parents knew, they had told her parents, and it was just hard for them...For all of them," Lasseigne said.
The District Attorney's office says that the 13-year-old cannot and will not be tried as an adult.
