10th Defendant Pleads Guilty in Bribe Case

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A 61-year-old man has admitted to his
role in a bribery scheme involving Baton Rouge City Court, bringing
to 10 the number of people who have pleaded guilty in the case.
Robert Stevens pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court to a
charge of conspiracy in aid of racketeering.
The Advocate reported that Stevens admitted taking bribes from
people with cases in city court and sharing the proceeds with
now-former senior city prosecutor Flitcher Bell. Bell would arrange
for the cases to be dismissed or fixed.
Bell pleaded guilty last year. All 10 defendants are awaiting
sentencing.
