NEW ORLEANS (AP) - New Orleans police are looking for two men accused of possessing 10 alligators stolen from the Audubon Zoo.
Zoo workers found signs of a break-in at a gift shop before the zoo opened July 4 - and only five baby gators in a tank that had held 15.
The next day, a woman told police two men had left eight baby alligators in a bin in her yard. Police spokesman Frank Robertson says she identified the suspects and described their vehicle. Robertson says Jefferson Parish sheriff's deputies stopped the vehicle that evening, found a baby alligator inside and let it go in a canal.
Police say they got arrest warrants on Monday accusing 30-year-old Rodney Thornton and 20-year-old Kawayne Powell of possessing stolen property - the alligators.
