1 dead in accident that ties up I-10 for hours

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A fiery crash in New Orleans killed one person and tied up interstate highway traffic for hours while police searched for a vehicle that left the scene.
Investigators say the accident happened around 10:45 Friday morning and involved traffic heading toward the suburb of Metairie. According to New Orleans police, a black Nissan Altima or Maxima was in the left lane when it contacted another black Nissan Altima, causing that car to slam into a rail and light pole.
Witnesses tried but failed to free the driver. Police shut down a section of I-10 in both directions until close to 2 p.m.
Police searched Friday afternoon for occupants of the black Nissan, who did not stop after the accident.
