COVINGTON, La. (AP) - The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement has awarded a $1.3 million grant to St. Tammany Parish to buy land for preservation and restoration.
The money comes from federal funding allocated from offshore petroleum revenue. The funds will be used to acquire and manage a 26-acre parcel of privately owned land located near Lacombe on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain.
Federal officials say the project will fund wetlands that are considered a vital piece of the Bayou Lacombe watershed basin.
