NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Lafayette Regional Airport is getting a $1.1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation.
The money is for improvements to runway safety areas - spaces for planes that overshoot, undershoot or veer off the runway.
Sen. Mary Landrieu's office announced the grant in a Tuesday news release that said money from the grant will help Lafayette Regional meet federal safety requirements by a Dec. 31, 2015, deadline.
