On July 27, 2010 the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office Bureau of Investigations was notified of an alleged theft of oil field equipment at Axxis Drilling in New Iberia.
Detectives learned that approximately $394,000 of oil and gas equipment was allegedly stolen from the Axxis Drilling yard between the dates of June 28th to July 12th.
Detectives went to a nearby salvage yard and learned that a Kevin Darby, an employee at the time of the thefts, had allegedly sold 51,390 pounds of metal to the yard. They also learned that Darby allegedly drove an Axxis Drilling forklift from the company to the salvage yard on four separate occasions carrying the stolen equipment.
Detectives arrested Darby at his residence in New Iberia. He was then transported to headquarters where he cooperated with detectives. Darby was then arrested on four counts of theft of oil and gas equipment and booked into the Iberia Parish Jail; no bond has been set at this time.
