NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The Southern Rep theater in New Orleans
announces a $10,000 national contest for plays by women of color.
The Ruby Prize is named for civil rights advocate Ruby Bridges.
In addition to $10,000, the winner gets a week-long development
workshop at the Southern Rep New Play Bacchanal in January and a
trip to New York to continue development of the play.
Two finalists get a trip to New Orleans, where their works will
be read at the January event.
The contest is open to any U.S. citizen who considers herself a
woman of color. Collaborations, translations, one-acts, plays
previously submitted to Southern Rep or plays that have had
professional productions with paid actors and an official press
The submissions deadline is Nov. 1.
