Autopsy results are back for a three-month old Abbeville baby girl who died in December after suffering severe injuries. The only information police would reveal about the autopsy is that Jayla Broussard died from blunt force trauma to the head, which the coroner had already ruled in December. (More)

A 16-year-old Abbeville boy accused of shooting a teenager will be charged as an adult. Gene Williams III is charged with attempted 2nd degree murder in the March 24 shooting that injured a 15-year-old boy.
The alleged shooting happened around 3:18 in the morning, and when police arrived at the intersection of Myrtle St. and Franks Alley, a passerby had already taken the teen to a hospital. Shortly after, police arrested Williams.

A timber bridge on LA 91, just south of Gueydan, 1.4 miles south of La. 14 in Vermilion Parish, will be closed for emergency repairs beginning on Monday, April, 1, 2013, at 8:00 a.m. The work is expected to take approximately 5 days, with weather permitting. A detour will consist of LA 3143, LA 711 and LA 14. The Department regrets the inconvenience caused to the traveling public.
