    Legislator Proposes No Visitation for First-Degree Murder Convicts

    An Acadiana legislator has drafted a bill that would prevent first-degree murder convicts serving life sentences without parole from receiving visitation from relatives. Senate Bill 108, written by Senator Jonathan Perry of Abbeville, provides exceptions for visits by legal, medical, and religious personnel. The bill's text says the law is needed provide "maximum protection" to the general public, prisons, and other inmates.

    Autopsy results are back for a three-month old Abbeville baby girl who died in December after suffering severe injuries. The only information police would reveal about the autopsy is that Jayla Broussard died from blunt force trauma to the head, which the coroner had already ruled in December. (More)

    Teen charged as adult in Abbeville shooting

    A 16-year-old Abbeville boy accused of shooting a teenager will be charged as an adult. Gene Williams III is charged with attempted 2nd degree murder in the March 24 shooting that injured a 15-year-old boy.

    The alleged shooting happened around 3:18 in the morning, and when police arrived at the intersection of Myrtle St. and Franks Alley, a passerby had already taken the teen to a hospital. Shortly after, police arrested Williams.
