A longtime Lafayette businessman and inventor has died. Ray Guidry, the president of Percy Guidry Companies since 1965, died following a battle with cancer. He was 71. Guidry designed and welded the first Cajun Grill for his father as a Father's Day present in 1958. That design is now sold across the world.
Martin and Castille Southside Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements, which are pending at this time.

A Breaux Bridge reserve police officer is in the Lafayette Parish Jail after he allegedly kicked in the door at his ex-girlfriend's apartment. Lafayette police are on the scene of a crash involving a school bus. The accident took place in the 2100 block of West Willow Street near its intersection with Ambassador Caffery. Police say a car turned in front of the bus from the wrong lane. Seven students were on the bus, which was en route to Carencro Middle School. Nobody was injured. The driver of the car was cited for making an improper turn.
