Teen Suspect Wanted in Overnight Jennings Shooting

A 16-year-old suspect is wanted in connection with an overnight shooting in Jennings. Police say the teen shot an 21-year-old man just before midnight in the 700 block of Wilbert D. Rochelle Street. The victim was transported to an area hospital, where he remains in serious, but stable, condition. Anyone with additional information about the shooting is asked to call Jennings police at 821-5506.

Welsh Power Outage Planned for Next Sunday

Residents of Welsh will be without power for a few hours next Sunday night. Town officials say Entergy will shut off electricity to the town at 11:00 P. M. to upgrade equipment in the area. Officials expect power to be restored before 6:00 A. M. Monday.

Former Jennings Police Chief Pleads Not Guilty

Former Jennings Police Chief Johnny Lassiter pleaded not guilty to charges that accuse of him stealing from the department's evidence room. Auditors discovered the missing items, including drugs.
In January, State Police arrested and charged Lassiter with theft over $1,500, malfeasance in office, obstruction of justice and injuring public records. The public records charge was dropped. His trial date is set for Sept. 16.

Hathaway man charged with incest

A Hathaway man is charged with two counts of aggravated incest. Jefferson Davis Sheriff's Office detectives arrested Philip D. Benoit, 51, of 23349 Hwy. 26, after a week-long investigation. No bond has been set.
