    New Iberia woman sentenced to 26 months in prison for IRS refund scheme

    Veta Thompson, 40, of New Iberia, La., was sentenced on May 17, 2013 by U.S. District Judge Elizabeth E. Foote, to 26 months in prison with one year supervised release for filing claims with the IRS and receiving tax refunds she was not owed.

    Right now, the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office is in the process of evacuating the city and parish courthouses. Deputies say they are searching each after a caller phoned in a bomb threat. They weren't specific on which courthouse, so both are being searched as a precaution.

    The New Iberia councilwoman says she hopes to introduce an ordinance allowing food trucks to operate in the city in June. Councilwoman Natalie Lopez-Robin says a couple of food truck owners spoke to the council at Tuesday's meeting. Lopez-Robin adds that she feels the council supports allowing these businesses to operate in New Iberia. She says if all goes as planned, she will introduce her ordinance on June 4.
